(Qigong)

Qigong is the ancient Chinese practice of using breathing, movement, and mental focus
to promote health and cultivate the spirit. Qi is all around us. The word qi can refer to
light, electricity, kinetic energy, the warmth of sunlight and bioelectricity (the impulses of
the nervous system). Gong means work. Therefore, qigong is usually translated as energy
work or energy cultivation.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, qi circulates throughout the human body in
twelve major channels and eight vessels. These channels and vessels are responsible for
nourishing the entire body, including all of its organs and systems. An imbalance in any
area can cause illness. When qi circulation is smooth and balanced, we are healthy in
mind, body and spirit. Qigong uses various types of movements that are coordinated with
breathing patterns to help to improve the quality and quantity of the body's energy.

The practice of qigong is perfect for those who are dealing with or recovering from
injuries or illnesses that prevent them from doing vigorous forms of exercise. It is also
recommended for anyone who feels the need to become less stressed out and more
centered and balanced. Qigong is perfect for patients and practitioners of healing arts
such as massage, Reiki, and acupuncture.
